Apply for the Core Invitational, a game dev competition from August 12 - September 13 with $140,000 USD in prizes, including a Tesla Model 3 (or the cash equivalent)! Open to all experienced and talented creators. Learn on your way, no prior experience in Core needed. All creators accepted in the Core Invitational (excluding the Category and Special Awards winners) will receive $1,000 USD for submission of a valid entry to support their game dev dreams.

Compete for Prizes

Games will compete in several categories to win in a prize pool of $140,000 USD, including a Tesla Model 3 (or the cash equivalent)! Winners' games will be featured in Core's Home World and be promoted through our channels and marketing campaigns.

How to Apply

Application Deadline: August 1, 2021 by 11:59pm PT

We encourage passionate, talented creators to apply to the Core Invitational. Whether you're an indie game dev or gaming industry professional, this is the competition for you. If you do not have prior experience in Core, that's okay! We'll teach creation in Core with mentorship, workshops, and office hours from our game industry veterans and Core pros.

Applicant Criteria

If you love creating games, maps, experiences, and more, you should apply for one of the 50 spots for this exclusive game dev competition. Please note that you must be age 13 or older to be eligible to apply. Open internationally.

Must submit a portfolio of games/maps/mods you have previously made on Core or other platforms/engines.Must commit to creating a game in Core for a month, starting from August 12 to September 13, 2021.
NOTE: We will also hold a Core Invitational Orientation beginning August 5 with special game design workshops you won’t want to miss! This includes a speaker panel from past winners.


Core Invitational Competitors

All those accepted into the Core Invitational will have a month to game jam for this competition. You'll learn from industry veterans in our workshops and have access to them in office hours. By the end of this month, you'll have an awesome game! Monetize your games and kickstart your indie studio to take your game to the next level. All creators accepted in the Core Invitational (excluding the Category and Special Awards winners) will receive $1,000 USD for submission of a valid entry to support their game dev dreams!

How To Stand Out

There are only 50 spots in this exclusive game dev competition, so submit your portfolio to showcase your skillset diversity! We encourage you to show off your games, prototypes, maps, and/or mechanics. We love and appreciate all the different ways game design skills are showcased, so show off all your indie games, jam/hackathon submissions, Roblox games, Fortnite Creative maps, and Minecraft mods in your application.

Core Invitational Prizing and Rules

All prizes available in the Contest are set out below. This Contest is subject to our Core Contest Official Rules. Please consult those Official Rules for details regarding eligibility and other requirements.

All creators accepted in the Core Invitational will receive $1,000 USD for submission of a valid entry, excluding the Category and Special Awards winners. In addition to that, there are a wide variety of contest categories to compete in for huge prizes.

Winners will have their games featured on Core's Home World hub, be on the front page of the 2D browser, and may enjoy the spotlight of our social media channels and marketing campaigns.

* Tesla is a registered trademark of Tesla Motors, Inc. The Tesla Model 3 grand prize is only for the eligible winner in the United States. You may get the cash equivalent if you are an international winner or on request if you are in the continental United States.
** Best Genre Mash-up is for games that creatively combine two or more genres to make a fun game. Some examples include "Rhythm x Survival", "Idle Clicker x FPS", or "RPG x TCG".
*** Best Game Remaster is for games that are mods, ports, remixes, or inspired remakes of existing games. Must have original content, must be credited appropriately for original inspiration, and must be a completely new Core game! An example of this is remaking a classic arcade game in Core with a unique spin.
**** Best Trailer/Machinima is determined by the best 60 second trailer or machinima that may optionally be submitted with one's competition game entry. Please note that the trailer/machinima submission deadline for the game jam is September 6, a week after the game is due to allow for people to have time to create a video of their completed, polished game.


Judging Criteria

The judging rubric for the games is 30% aesthetic, 30% functionality, and 40% overall impression.
This competition is subject to the Core Contests Official Rules.

Winners for the contest will be announced on around September 16, 2021. In addition to prizing, the winners will be promoted by Manticore Games and be featured on Core. You retain your existing IP rights to games that you publish on Core. Creators who submit valid entries for the Core Invitational will receive an invitation to join Core's Perks Program (for more details see Perks Program Terms of Participation).

Do I need experience in Core to apply?
Nope! All you need is the passion to create games and a portfolio of your creative work. You are encouraged to take a look at Core before you apply though, and there are tons of resources to get a headstart on learning.

Who is eligible to enter?
All creators who are age 13 and older are encouraged to apply, open internationally. For full details of eligibility, read the Core Contests Official Rules.

Do I need a team?
No, you do not! You may apply as an individual or as a team for one slot of the 50 accepted with one submitted application. Please note that the $1,000 USD (for submission of a valid entry; excluding Category and Special Awards winners) reward will be up to you to split with your anyone else on your team in your slot. Do note that teams are more likely to be accepted than individuals. If you don't have a team, once you're accepted into the Core Invitational, you may post in the "#looking-for-team" Discord channel.

If I'm in the continental United States but I don't want the Tesla, can I get the cash equivalent?
Yes, you can get the cash equivalent!

What should be in my portfolio submission?
Submit your portfolio to showcase your skillset diversity! We encourage you to show off your games, prototypes, maps, and mechanics. We love and appreciate all the different ways game design skills are showcased, so share with us all your indie games, jam/hackathon submissions, Roblox games, Fortnite Creative maps, and Minecraft mods in your application.

Can I win several categories/awards?
No. You may enter your game into multiple categories to compete, yet you may only win one category/award, with the exception of the optional category "Best Trailer". For example, if you win "Best Overall", you cannot also win "Best RPG" but you may also win "Best Trailer".

Can I or my team submit multiple entries?
No. You may enter your game into multiple categories to compete, yet there is only one submission per slot (individual/team) allowed. We recommend people focus on one game this month for quality; if people have extra time, we recommend polish or trailer to be eligible for the "Best Trailer/Machinima" award.
