Apply for the Core Invitational, a game dev competition from March 4 - April 5 with $120,000 USD in prizes. Only 50 creators will be accepted, so submit your portfolio today. Make the most awesome game in Core in just one month against other indie game devs, creators, and modders.

Open to all experienced and talented creators. Learn on your way, no prior experience in Core needed. All creators accepted in the Core Invitational (excluding the Category and Special Awards winners) will receive $1,000 USD for submission of a valid entry to support their game dev dreams!

Exclusive Core Training

Invitational creators will have access to our live, virtual Fast Track training designed to get devs unfamiliar with Core ramped up quickly on the platform. This includes game design workshops and office hours hosted by industry veterans!

Compete for Prizes

Games will compete in several categories to win in a prize pool of $120K USD. Winners may also be featured and may have their game spotlighted by a famous influencer(s)!

All games in the Core Invitational must be created in Core. Core is an endless universe of games to play and worlds to explore designed by a global community of creators. Whether you’re interested in playing unexpected takes on your favorite genres, exploring worlds with friends, or unleashing your own game ideas, Core is your portal to the multiverse.

How to Apply

We encourage passionate, talented creators to apply to the Core Invitational. Whether you're an indie game dev or gaming industry professional, this is the competition for you. If you do not have prior experience in Core, that's okay! We'll teach creation in Core with mentorship, workshops, and office hours from our game industry veterans.

Applicant Criteria

If you love creating games, maps, experiences, and more, you should apply for one of the 50 spots for this exclusive game dev competition. Please note that you must be age 13 or older to eligible to apply. Open internationally.

Must submit a portfolio of games/maps/mods you have previously made on Core or other platforms/engines.Must commit to creating a game in Core for a month, starting from March 4 to April 5 of 2021.


Core Invitational Competitors

All those accepted into the Core Invitational will have a month to game jam for this competition. You'll learn from industry veterans in our workshops and have access to them in office hours. By the end of this month, you'll have an awesome game! Monetize your games and kickstart your indie studio to take your game to the next level. All creators accepted in the Core Invitational (excluding the Category and Special Awards winners) will receive $1,000 USD for submission of a valid entry to support their game dev dreams!

How To Stand Out

There are only 50 spots in this exclusive game dev competition, so submit your portfolio to showcase your skillset diversity! We encourage you to show off your games, prototypes, maps, and/or mechanics. We love and appreciate all the different ways game design skills are showcased, so show off all your indie games, jam/hackathon submissions, Roblox games, Fortnite Creative maps, and Minecraft mods in your application.

Winners may have their games featured on Core's front page and may enjoy the spotlight in videos or streams by famous influencer(s).

*Best Homeworld/Social Experience for worlds and games can be connected by portals in Core. A homeworld is a social space where users can hangout before heading off to games. This can be anything you can imagine, but it must link to at least one other world or game.
** Best Game Remaster is for games that are mods, ports, remixes, or inspired remakes of existing games. Must have original content!
*** Best Trailer/Machinima is determined by the best 60 second trailer or machinima that may optionally be submitted with one's competition game entry.


Judging Criteria

The judging rubric for the games is 30% aesthetic, 30% functionality, and 40% overall impression.
This competition is subject to the Core Contests Official Rules.

Winners for the contest will be announced on April 12, 2021. In addition to prizing, the winners will be promoted by Manticore Games and be featured on Core. You retain your existing IP rights to games that you publish on Core. Creators who submit valid entries for the Core Invitational will receive an invitation to join Core's Perks Program (for more details see Perks Program Terms of Participation).

Do I need experience in Core to apply?
Nope! All you need is the passion to create games and a portfolio of your creative work. You are encouraged to take a look at Core before you apply though, and there are tons of resources to get a headstart on learning.

Who is eligible to enter?
All creators who are age 13 and older are encouraged to apply, open internationally. For full details of eligibility, read the Core Contests Official Rules.

Do I need a team?
No, you do not! You may apply as an individual or as a team for one slot of the 50 accepted with one submitted application. Please note that the $1,000 USD (for submission of a valid entry; excluding Category and Special Awards winners) reward will be up to you to split with your anyone else on your team in your slot. Do note that teams are more likely to be accepted than individuals. If you don't have a team, once you're accepted into the Core Invitational, you may post in the "#looking-for-team" Discord channel.

Can I win several categories/awards?
No. You may enter your game into multiple categories to compete, yet you may only win one category/award. For example, if you win "Best Overall", you cannot also win "Best Shooter" and "Best Trailer".

Can I or my team submit multiple entries?
No. You may enter your game into multiple categories to compete, yet there is only one submission per slot (individual/team) allowed. We recommend people focus on one game this month for quality; if people have extra time, we recommend polish or trailer to be eligible for the "Best Trailer/Machinima" award.
